If Ebay is the Honda, then 1stdibs is the Jaguar of vintage sites. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve got nothing against Ebay’s overload of guiltless gratification. It’s what got me hooked on vintage in the first place. But 1stdibs is an indulgence. It’s for the hedonist in me, for the woman who revels in luxury and excellence, sometimes unattainable, but never unimaginable. Because 1stdibs sells a carefully curated dream. Even if you’re just looking, and not touching, the sheer quality of it all can send you into a trance-like tizzy.
The 1stdibs Saturday Shopping features are top notch. They invite interesting people in the fashion and interior world (like Thom Browne, Francisco Costa, Kathryn Ireland, Neal Beckstedt etc) to choose their favorite pieces of clothing, antiques and furniture from the site for a personalized shopping experience. Tomorrow is my turn but we went a bit further… I’m also wearing the clothes. This is the first collaboration of its kind for 1stdibs and I am so pleased to do the honors. I chose to work with Alan Hsu Vintage Modern, a vintage dealer from Brooklyn who sells exclusively on-line through a 1stdibs storefront, and put together four looks. All the clothes are for sale on the 1stdibs blog, The Study, so let the reverie commence!
Many thanks to Samantha Andriano and Kate Klobe at 1stdibs.
