Ever since my bewildered excitement over the tomato/aubergine/pomegranate collection I’ve had a keen, lustful eye on Dolce & Gabbana. I’ve been ogling, fawning and bracing myself, curious to find out whether this vibrant, new direction was a fad or some case of temporary sanity. Well, my friends, it was neither. The boys, and whoever they have hired to steer them onto this enlightened path, are still screaming color, print and pattern. And I’m all the merrier about it. Their Sicilian collection was so good I felt like a big groupie when I watched the show. Every basket weave skirt, sack dress and raffia bag they sent out made me jump in my seat and clap my hands like a schoolgirl. And when I went to their flag ship store party on Madison Avenue a few weeks ago, I relived the whole rush tenfold. I could’ve bought the entire store. Alas, I can only afford to do a little tribute shoot… Here’s to you, D and G!
