Like A Gentleman

Last week Bergdorf Goodman unveiled Nicholas Kirkwood’s collection in a prime spot on the shoe floor with a small luncheon for fans and editors. The man of the hour was there to welcome and entertain everyone with lobster salad and petits fours before jetting off again to London that night. I was sent a pair of turquoise, suede sling backs with a heel that I can only describe as metal flower petals. They have a 60s feel to them. Sadly I have to return them, and I don’t think this color was produced, but if you hurry up there might still be a pair of black and white ones at the store!

And I’ve finally discovered how to wear my old Celine coat! To the point where I’m clinging on to it for dear life and let it dictate my outfit every day. (I bought this coat at a TV wardrobe sale a while back. Don’t hate me but it was only $200…) I realized I was doing it wrong this whole time. I kept wondering, why do I look like such a grandma in this coat? I’d put it on, then take it back off again in sheer disgust. Then I figured it out: you need to think like a gentleman, not a senior citizen. And there’s no way you can do that wearing a skirt. So I’ve been doing cropped pants – I hate skinny jeans – with all kinds of men’s sweaters and flats. (Maybe you saw my instagram last week?) And if you want to go from day to night, all you have to do is replace the flat with a pump.
