Check in: Beverly Hills Hotel. Palm trees, blue skies, valet parking, cabana boys and sunset golden hour. The Pink Palace is a retro-chic haven, a beacon of luscious luxury in the middle of Los Angeles. Its history is rich and revealing. It is at the no-pants-allowed Polo Club that Marlene Dietrich showed up wearing slacks and promptly demanded the staff to lift the ban. Today we can pretty much wear whatever we want, or don’t.
I’ve been doting on retro bikinis since the summer started. I bought this cotton aqua bustier and a few other cute pieces from Grayson High Horse Vintage at the Williamsburg Artists and Fleas market. I love the color, the fit and the clever lapels. The print is a kid’s drawing of two green chairs around a blue table with a pink umbrella.
The scalloped, silk, orange and navy Prada playsuit is from the lingerie collection somewhere around 2000. I take it to any beach destination.
Michelle Harper lent me her sky-blue bubble panties. I wore them over a pair of Lisa Marie Fernandez aqua neoprene bikini bottoms. I tied a cotton turquoise bandana in my hair and borrowed Michelle’s new turquoise Dior sunglasses with polarized lenses (“I just had to buy them. They’re from Galliano’s last collection.”). The rattan wedges with leaves motif are Cacharal and a few years old.
OPI ‘Stranger Tides’ manicure, Essie ‘Tart Deco’ pedicure.
I will be in Los Angeles for the next two weeks and take you on my journey. Watch this space!
