“Can you see my underwear through this dress?” Julia whispers in my ear when she arrives at her mom’s party in Paris. She’s wearing a skin tight, black, lace Dolce & Gabbana dress that’s fitting in all the right places. She looks radiant, and a little mischievous. We’d been talking about the party for over a week. “I need a night to myself and dance!” she’d bbm me. And I couldn’t agree more, except that I think I have a fever. But that’s beside the point. Back to the dress. I take a step back, turn her around a few times, and hesitate: “Yeah, you can… But just a little bit!” “Oh, that’s OK!” she says and bounces off the get a drink.
It’s no secret that Julia Restoin-Roitfeld is a hot mama. Her curves can hit you in the face like smokey tamales. Her Pucci dresses are usually hiked up to borderline appropriate lengths. And she’s flirty, always up for a good time. But now she’s also a hot MAMA! Romy was born almost a year ago and is the new love of her life. Parties, cocktails and dancing have been put on hold until now. (I admit I am a little bit in love with Romy too…) Julia is an amazing mom, with a pocket of knowledge and insight that blows me away. I’m not a mom yet but I am learning so much from my friend. She’s in inspiration and an example.
And now you can be a part of Julia’s experiences too! Just this week she launched her website, Romy and the Bunnies, “a place for new and expectant mothers to find inspiring stories of family, always with an eye toward style, beauty, and joy.” So far the site features interviews with Helena Christensen and a Doula (yes, a doula!), drawings of Romy in her favorite outfits, and flashbacks to vintage mommies like Romy Schneider. It’s a great read. Congratulations my sweet Julia!
